Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 September 2026
Fire and Ice is operated by Fire & Ice Gemstone Jewellery Specialists Limited, a family business at 6 Church Street, Akaroa, Banks Peninsula 7520, New Zealand. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its 13 information privacy principles.
If you have any questions about this policy, please email us at enquiries@fireandice.co.nz or phone +64 3 304 7804.
Information we collect
We collect the following personal information:
- Orders. When you place an order we collect your name, email address, phone number and shipping address, along with any order note you choose to add and the details of what you bought.
- Payment information. Card payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered directly into Stripe and are never seen or stored by this website or by us. We receive only the confirmation that a payment succeeded, along with limited details such as the card type and last four digits held in your Stripe receipt.
- Marketing consent. The checkout includes a marketing consent checkbox. It is ticked by default and you can untick it before you place your order. Your choice is recorded against the order.
- Enquiries and newsletter signups. When you use our newsletter signup form we collect your email address. When you use our contact form we collect your name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message.
- Website usage information. Analytics and advertising tools collect information about how you use the site, such as the pages you view, the device and browser you use, your approximate location and how you arrived at the site. This is described under cookies and tracking below.
How we use your information
- To process, pack and ship your order, and to take payment for it.
- To send you order confirmation emails and to contact you about your order if we need to.
- To answer enquiries you send us through the site.
- To send you our newsletter, where you have signed up or left the checkout consent box ticked.
- To understand how the site is used, to improve it, and to measure and target our advertising.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
Under the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 we send marketing emails only where you have consented. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time or email us and we will remove you from the list.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses cookies and similar identifiers. Some are needed for the site to work, and others are used for analytics and advertising.
- Local browser storage. Your shopping cart, and any coupon code that arrived with a link you followed, are stored in your own browser so that they are still there when you come back. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.
- Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics to measure visits, the pages people view, how they found the site and whether they went on to buy. Google may set cookies and process this information on our behalf.
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel. We use the Meta Pixel to measure the results of our Facebook and Instagram advertising, and to show ads to people who have visited the site. It records actions such as page views, adding to cart and completing a purchase.
Google and Meta may process this information outside New Zealand, including in the United States. You can limit this tracking by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings, by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on available from Google, and by adjusting your ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram account settings. Blocking cookies used by the site itself may stop parts of the site, such as the cart, from working properly.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the shop, and where the law requires it. Those providers are:
- Stripe, which processes card payments.
- WordPress and WooCommerce, where our product catalogue and order records are held.
- Vercel, which hosts this website.
- Formspree, which delivers submissions from our contact and newsletter forms.
- EmailOctopus, which holds our mailing list and sends our newsletter. It stores your name and email address.
- Google and Meta, for the analytics and advertising described above.
Overseas disclosure
Several of the providers listed above are based overseas or store information on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States and Europe. This means your personal information may be held or processed outside New Zealand. Information privacy principle 12 of the Privacy Act 2020 governs this, and we rely on these providers operating under privacy safeguards comparable to those in New Zealand law, or on the disclosure being necessary to provide the service you have asked for, such as taking your payment or delivering your order.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection and card details go directly to Stripe, so they never pass through or rest on our systems. We limit access to order and customer records to the people who need it to run the shop. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, and for as long as the law requires. Records that support our accounts, including sales records, are kept for seven years as required by New Zealand tax law. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can also ask us to stop sending you marketing, or to delete information we no longer need to keep.
Email enquiries@fireandice.co.nz and we will respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days as the Act requires. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information or your request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us their details, please contact us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site or our practices change. The current version is always on this page, and the date at the top shows when it was last updated.
